The MC Control's high-resolution touch-screen interface,
motorized faders and arsenal of rotary encoders, soft keys and transport controls
instantly snap to the selected application to put multi-format metering, plug-in
parameters, track information and much more at your fingertips.
Most importantly, software developers like Apple, Steinberg,
MOTU and others have worked closely to integrate native support for Euphonix'
EuCon control protocol into their DAWs to deliver an unmatched editing and mixing
experience.
EuCon - High Speed Connectivity - Any Application
EuCon is a high speed Ethernet control protocol developed
by Euphonix that allows the MC Control to connect to any Mac OS X application.
EuCon carries control information for faders, knobs, displays and more between
the MC Control and whatever application is in focus on your computer.
EuCon is MIDI on steroids and is the next generation control
protocol for working with music and video applications.
The EuControl application manages the MC Control’s
connection to the Mac, and the MC Client application connects the EuCon control
data to all the applications. The MC Control can connect to any application,
but for fader and knob control, the application must be able to support either
EuCon, HUI, or Mackie Control protocol.
Multiple Applications
MC Control works with any application and the surface
changes to match the application in focus. For applications that do not support
EuCon, HUI or Mackie control, such as iTunes, the 12 physical soft keys beneath
the screen and the 24 virtual soft keys on the touch-screen can be used for
keyboard shortcuts.
For EuCon, HUI or Mackie Control applications the faders
can be used to control track levels, the knobs can control plug-in values, and
the transport and jog wheel can be used to move around in the project. This
is in addition to the use of soft keys.
Touch-Screen - Tracks
The MC Control's Touch-screen allows easy access to setup
functions, soft keys and track information.
The MC Control's 800 x 480 pixel touch-screen offers full
color, high-resolution feedback of everything from track info to plug-in parameters,
and provides easy access to track information, soft keys and setup functions.
There are three main screens:
1. Tracks
2. Soft Keys
3. Setup
The Tracks Page provides you with instant push button
access to audio tracks in any DAW or video editor that supports the EuCon, HUI
or Mackie Control protocols. Use these buttons to layout tracks onto the MC
Control's faders. You can also set a track or multiple tracks into Record, Solo,
Mute or just select them for editing operations directly on the screen without
ever touching a mouse.
When an MC Mix unit is added to an MC Control this screen
allows tracks to be laid out in any order on the faders with EuCon applications
such as Nuendo and Logic Pro.
Touch Screen - Soft keys
These soft keys provide an easy way for you to quickly
access app functions at the touch of a button.
Program keystroke shortcuts for any application or direct
commands with EuCon enabled applications such as Logic Pro and Nuendo.
These soft keys instantly change to match as soon as you
switch to another application, and you can save your favorite soft keys for
each application you use.
Assignable Soft keys (12)
12 programmable soft keys are available just below the touch-screen for fast
access your most frequently used functions. These can easily be programmed to
trigger simple keystroke commands as well as complex macros, and automatically
change to match each application as it comes into focus.
Application Sets
MC Control intelligently recognizes the application that is in focus, or up
front. Each application has an associated Application Set which loads as soon
as the application is brought into focus. MC Control comes with several default
sets for popular applications but it is easy to make your own, custom sets.
Touch Screen - Setup
General Setup
These are preferences that exist on the touch-screen for fast access, as they
might be changed during a mix or editing session. They include functions like
what windows or track inspector panes will be visible when the user enters specific
knob sets, whether or not a track is automatically attentioned when a fader
is touched, selecting solo mode and much more.
Soft Key Setup
This screen is used to create soft key pages and program soft keys. Soft key
pages are stored in documents called user sets that can be saved using the host
application.
Control Room Setup
This screen lets the user choose the source of the control room volume knob,
as well as providing talkback, dim, and mute functions. Typically this is used
for controlling Studio Monitor Express, but will also control an application
that supports EuCon monitor sections, like Apogee's Maestro.
Monitor Setup
This screen lets the user configure and choose the source of the monitor volume
knob. The Control Room volume knob adjusts the monitor level when the Shift
Key is held.
Transport Control and Jog/Shuttle Wheel
The MC Control's ergonomic layout puts the transport controls
and data entry wheel at your fingertips, as well as keys to quickly select what
parameter the wheel will modify (zoom horizontally/vertically or jog/shuttle).
The EuCon protocol connects these controls to the transport
controls in EuCon, HUI or Mackie Control capable applications.
Additional custom transport functions can easily be mapped
to the MC Control's soft keys.
4 Motorized Touch-Sensitive Faders
MC Control includes four high-quality 100mm long throw
faders for accurate and smooth mixing. Touching a fader will automatically select
and control the corresponding track within any application that supports EuCon,
HUI or Mackie Control protocols as soon as the application is brought up front,
or in focus. Fader meters and track designations show at the top of the touch-screen.
Use dedicated keys to bank tracks (4 at a time) or nudge
tracks (1 at a time). Plus tracks, from an application that supports EuCon,
can be assigned to any fader and saved at layouts for easy recall.
8 Touch-Sensitive Rotary Encoders with On-Screen Displays
These eight rotary controllers offer direct control over
everything from panning and gain, to editing your most powerful plug-ins and
EQ, and depict instant positional feedback via mapped knob displays on the touch-screen
(Euphonix Patent Pending).
The knobs can also be pressed to instantiate and navigate
through parameters.
Touch sensitivity allows automation to be written intuitively.
Studio Monitor Express
Studio Monitor Express is your own professional monitor
matrix running on the host Mac OS X computer.
Studio Monitor Express uses Core Audio outputs to feed
your speakers and can handle up to 5.1 surround with a monitor level control
on the MC Control surface. Switch between Main and two Alternate control room
sources as well as two SLS/Cue speaker/phones outputs (providing you have sufficient
hardware outputs).
Apogee's Ensemble, Symphony and Duet range of converters
will include full EuCon support and are perfect for feeding speakers from Studio
Monitor Express. You can also select external audio inputs such as a DVD fed
from external hardware I/O to the speakers.
Artist Systems
The MC Control is designed to work with up to four MC
Mix units for complete audio mixing control with 36 faders.
With EuCon applications, the MC Control can also be used
to assign any track to any MC Mix fader and have these assignments saved for
easy recall from the screen. Save a Layout for Drums, one for Keyboards, another
for Guitars, and so on, to make mixing with large number of tracks a breeze.
MC Control and MC Mix units clip together or can be situated
anywhere as each has its own Ethernet connection.
