If you haven't noticed,
there are no MIDI jacks on the back of your computer
(unless you have a very old Atari computer). In
order to use MIDI with your computer, you need
to add them. This is accomplished with a MIDI
interface. A MIDI interface simply allows
the computer to connect with your MIDI devices.

While the MIDI interface
will connect the MIDI to your computer, you will
still need software to do anything with your MIDI
devices. Just like hooking up a printer to your
computer is great, but in order to write a letter
to grandma, you will need a word processor.
MIDI Interfaces come in a wide
variety of sizes and shapes and feautres. The most
basic difference between the different types is
the number of ports that the interface has. For
a simple set up with just one keyboard, you will
only need a MIDI interface with 1 in and 1 out.
